This is a Front-Office-Roles position in Johannesburg, South Africa posted January 9, 2014.

The CEO of Private Equity will report to the Investment Bank CEO.

Main Purpose of the role:
• The CEO of Private Equity will be expected to develop and execute the private equity strategy. Leveraging off the Group’s existing capabilities, strong African footprint and brand presence the incumbent will take responsibility for managing the Group’s private equity capability across Africa.
• This role will entail taking responsibility for growing the deal pipeline and creating a highly profitable business. Additionally, there will be responsibility related to the business development efforts in current and new countries in Africa, some of which may be outside the typical sphere of private equity.
• The CEO will also play a key role in fund raising.
Responsibilities:
• Devise and execute the business strategy and take a lead in architecting the investment thesis.
• Enhance, build and grow the Private Equity team to ensure that the following competencies are available and continuously enhanced:
• Fund raising capabilities.
• Investor relationships.
• Transaction sourcing.
• Transaction execution.
• Investment maintenance and active value management.
• Fund reporting and accounting.
• Innovation and product development.
• Build, manage, motivate and retain teams by ensuring:
• Communication of PE vision/strategy.
• Engaging, empowering and valuing each team member.
• Creating opportunities for personal growth and development.
• Incentivisation that rewards collective results.
• Foster productive working relationships with colleagues in the various countries.
• Evaluation and exploration of future funds and investment opportunities and play a key role in fund raising.
• Enhance and ensure operational efficiencies.
• Ensure risk management and compliance procedures are adhered to.
Qualification Requirement
• An MBA, CFA, CA or other suitable academic qualification.
Experience / Background Preference
• The company will only look at candidates who have no less than TEN years private equity experience.
• It is essential that candidates have extensive experience in all aspects of private equity, including: fund raising, deal origination, transaction management, evaluations, negotiations, M & A and deal maintenance and exiting transactions.
• Previous exposure to Africa, coupled with strong networks on the African continent, will be highly advantageous.
• An excellent command of English, both written and verbal, is a requirement of the role.
